8th Sir Ector

Welcome to Team Sir Ector

Meaning Behind the Name

Castle Rock Middle School is centered around the Knights of the Round Table. These legends of yore were known for their chivalry, bravery, and intelligence. Our team is named after Sir Ector. Sir Ector was the biological father of Sir Kay and the adoptive father of King Arthur. Ector loved and treated Arthur as if he were his own son. King Arthur was taught his most admirable traits of being just, intelligent, and accepting by his adoptive father Sir Ector. Ector modeled these behaviors and taught them to his sons. Therefore, we consider ourselves in the same position. Like Ector, we view our students as family. Like Arthur, we want to ensure our students leave our classrooms ready to lead, change, and shape the world.

Your core teachers are:

Social Studies-- Steven Smith

My name is Steven Smith and I teach eighth grade social studies on team Sir Ector. This will be my ninth year here at CRMS, and twelfth year teaching in general. I have a BA in Social Studies Secondary Education from Western Michigan University.  Ever since I can remember I have always been curious about the world around me and I want to share that same curiosity with my students. In my class, students will learn to question and critically think about the events of our nation's history. My philosophy is that history is less about learning specific facts, and more about critically thinking and drawing connections between the four disciplines of social studies: history, economics, government, and geography. I look forward to watching my students grow as world class thinkers this school year!

Math-- Rebecca Kocur

This is my fifth year at Castle Rock Middle School but I have been teaching for over 14 years. I started off in Littleton and moved to Douglas County last year. I am a graduate from Northern Illinois University and have a Masters of Education from National-Louis University in Chicago. I have three children, two of which attend Soaring Hawk Elementary. I am very excited to be working within my community and watching all of the students grow! Mrs. Kocur’s Site

Science-- Shantel Poole

I am so excited to teach in this wonderful Castle Rock community and get to know you this year. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Education along with an English Language Learning endorsement from the University of North Dakota. Previously, I taught 4th grade for eight years at Buffalo Ridge Elementary in Castle Pines, CO. During part of my time at BRE, I was able to teach science to all 4th graders and I developed a real passion for how our world works scientifically. I have always wanted to teach middle school because I just LOVE this age and the unique personalities! I am originally from Minot, North Dakota and moved to Colorado a little over nine years ago.  I am married to my husband, Jarred, and we are currently building a house in Castle Rock. I am thrilled to be able to teach and invest in the community I live in! Mrs. Poole's Site

Language Arts-- Michael Pace

This will be my 8th year of teaching Language Arts in middle school. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Secondary Education English. I worked in Oklahoma for 3 years as a 6th grade Language Arts teacher before I moved to Colorado in 2018. I love teaching 8th grade and feel grateful that I can equip students with the skills they will need to be successful in High School and beyond.

Health/Wellness-- Alexis Myers

My name is Alexis Myers and I teach 8th grade Wellness for team Ector. This will be my ninth year teaching at CRMS!! Colorado Native; I grew up in the Douglas County community and have always wanted to be a teacher to help inspire other students to find a passion in their life!! I also enjoy any opportunity to be active outside hiking, camping, running you name it!! In my class we get to float between the health room and the gym this year!! SO EXCITING. This means your kids will get more movement all year long. My philosophy in a wellness based curriculum is that students are finding at least one passion that they can take with them into the rest of their lives. I'm not trying to build athletes but build up the wellness potential in each wonderful student's mindset moving forward as they get older.
